Pitjantjatjarra/Yankunytjatjarra to Eng Dictionary Second edition
The new 316-page Revised Second Edition, compiled by Cliff Goddard and now Updated by Rebecca Defina, includes more entries in a compact 17x24cm size you can easily hold. It corrects errors in spelling, definitions and example sentences, to improve consistency. This is a dictionary for language learners, translators and educators that sets out the range of meanings that a word may have, and provides examples of uses with grammatical and cultural information.
Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara are two neighbouring dialects of the Western Desert language. They are spoken over a wide area of the Northern Territory and South Australia, stretching from Areyonga in the north to Coober Pedy in the south, along the Western Australia border and as far east as Oodnadatta.
This dictionary has been in print since 1992, helping thousands of students and speakers to master one of the most widely spoken languages of Central Australia. It includes a list of common words with definitions and illustrations, with examples by Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara speakers. The introduction includes a guide to spelling, pronunciation and grammar, and explains how to look up a word. There are separate lists with the scientific and Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara names of plants, animals, insects and birds; and a reverse word finder to help English speakers locate words
